NDA 2018 Exam Schedule for Paper-I & Paper-II has been released now. NDA 2018 examination is a gateway for those candidates seeking for entry in Defence Forces like Army, Navy and Air Force. NDA exam is a national level examination, which is organized two times in a year, i.e. NDA I and NDA II. A large number of students appear in the NDA exam to secure their career in Indian Defence Services. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the NDA exam in various cities across the country. Here we are providing details about NDA 2018 examination including application form, eligibility, exam dates, etc.

NDA Application Form 2018

  • NDA 2018 Application Form will be available via online mode from 10th January 2018 (for NDA-I) & 06/06/2018 (for NDA-II).

  • There is no offline application form available for NDA exam.

  • NDA Registration 2018 will be done in two parts.

  • In the registration part-I, candidates have to fill their personal, qualification, communication & other required details.

  • After completing part-I, candidates will receive the registration number.

  • In the registration part-II, students have to select the exam centres and make the fee payment through online or offline mode.

  • Upload the scanned images of photograph and signature.

  • Accept the declaration and take printout of the filled application form for further use.

  • There is no need to send the printout of the application form to the authority.

Application Fee:

  • The application fee will be Rs. 100/- for general & OBC students.

  • SC/ST candidates and wards of NCOs/ JCOs/Ors are not required to pay any application fee.

  • The fee payment can be done via online mode (VISA/Master/Debit Card and Net banking).

  • In offline mode, payment can be done through e-challan of SBI Bank.

Eligibility criteria for NDA

Nationality: A candidate must either be:

  1. a citizen of India, or

  2. a subject of Bhutan, or

  3. a subject of Nepal, or

  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of  Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limits 

  • Candidates born not earlier than 02nd January 1999 and not later than 1st January 2002 are eligible.

Marital Status

  1. Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply.

  2. Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their full training

  3. A candidate who marries after the date of his application though successful at this or any subsequent Examination will not be selected for training.

  4. A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

Educational Qualifications

  1. Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

  2. Candidates appearing in the 11th class exam are not eligible for this examination.

  3. Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC Examination should note that this is only a special concession given to them.

  4. Those candidates who have failed INSB/PABT earlier are not eligible for Air Force.

For Army Wing of National Defence Academy

  • 12th Class passes of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy.

  • 12th Class passes of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Physical Standards

  1. Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2016 as per guidelines are given in Appendix-IV. (I.e. some Qualified Candidates Are Rejected Subsequently On Medical Grounds. Candidates Are Therefore Advised In Their Own Interest To Get Themselves Medically Examined Before Submitting Their Applications To Avoid Disappointment At The Final Stage. Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/ailments to speed up finalisation of medical examination conducted at the Military  Hospital after being recommended at the SSB)

  2. A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of Armed Forces is not eligible to apply.

Visual standards

  1. The distance vision (corrected) should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye. Myopia should not be more than 2.5 D and hypermetropia not more than 3.5 D including Astigmatism. Internal examination of the eye will be done using the ophthalmoscope to rule out any disease of the eye.

  2. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be (CP-III)  for Army. A candidate should be able to recognise red and green colours. Candidates will be required to give certificates that neither he nor any member of his family has suffered from congenital night blindness.

  3. Candidates who have undergone or have the evidence of having undergone Radial Keratotomy, to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected for all the Services. Candidates who have undergone Laser Surgery for correction of the refractive error are also not acceptable to defence services.

Vision standard for naval candidates

  1. Uncorrected without glass 6/6,  6/9

  2. Corrected with glass 6/6,  6/6

  3. Limits of Myopia –0.75

  4. Limits of Hypermetropia +1.5

  5. Binocular Vision III

  6. Limits of colour perception I

NDA Exam Pattern

The exam pattern details are given here:

  • Type of Question: There will be objective type questions asked in the examination.

  • Exam Mode: The exam will be conducted through pen and paper based mode.

  • Exam Duration: Two and half hour duration will be given for Code 1 and Code 2.

  • Section: The exam will consist of two sections like Mathematics and General Ability Test.

  • Language: The question paper will be asked in bilingual, i.e. English & Hindi only.

  • Negative Marking: There will be negative marking done for wrong answers.

NDA Syllabus

  • Before preparing for examination, candidates should gather all the details regarding officially prescribed syllabus.

  • The syllabus has been divided into two sections, i.e. Mathematics & General Ability Test.

  • The mathematics section will contain topics like Trigonometry, Differential Calculus, Algebra, Integral Calculus & Differential equations, Statistics, Probability, Vector Algebra, etc.

  • The general ability section is divided into two parts, i.e. English and General Knowledge.

NDA Preparation Tips

  • First of all, make a proper study plan for your preparations.

  • Make a time table and divide time equally for all the subjects.

  • Include every single topic of the syllabus in your studies.

  • Prepare from the best books and study materials available in the market or in the internet.

  • Practice previous year question papers & sample papers it will help you to get familiarize with the exam pattern.

  • While preparing for exam, never ignore your health.

  • Take healthy and nutritious diet and do meditation & Yoga it will help you to increase concentration.
