Bank employee scores 100 percentile in CAT 2018

PUBLISH DATE 6th January 2019

Rickshesh Manchanda (21) has emerged as the lone 100 percentile scorer from the city in the Common Admission Test (CAT), the results of which were declared on Saturday. He is among 7 candidates scoring 100 percentile in CAT exam from the state.

Manchanda, an IIT-Delhi graduate who works in a bank in the city, notched up a 100 percentile score without attending any coaching class. Last year, he scored 99.99 percentile in CAT while still in the fourth year of his engineering.

CAT is the gateway to some of the top MBA institutes in the country.

Manchanda hopes to gain admission to any of the top management colleges. “I am the only one in my family to do engineering and, hopefully, will be the first person to do management too,” he said.

Though the exact number is not available, there are quite a few 99 percentile scorers from the city.

Paarth Hebbalkar with 99.97 percentile, Aakash Parikh with 99.92 percentile, Dhiraj Kulkarni with 99.89 percentile are some of the top scorers from the city.

A total of 2,09,405 students appeared for the exam from across the country, out of which 11 students secured 100 percentile score.

“We have about 7-8 students who have scored above 99 percentile. The results were good and top scorer Paarth Hebbalkar got 99.97 percentile,” said Ranjit Calangutkar, director, IMS Pune.

“I was expecting above 99 percentile and I hope I get into the top three IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta) or Faculty of Management Studies,” said Hebbalkar, who graduated from Maharashtra Institute of Technology in 2018. Aniket Mahajan, marketing head of Career Launcher in Pune, said that 9 students from their class have scored above 99 percentile. Aakash Parikh was the high scorer with 99.92 percentile.

“I was working in a management consulting firm in Pune and used to get time to prepare only on weekends,” said Parikh.

“I was expecting 99.5 percentile but this was a pleasant surprise,” he added.

Dhiraj Kulkarni who scored99.89 percentile, said, “I passed out of the computer engineering department, College of Engineering Pune, in 2016. I prepared for two years for CAT while working in the banking sector. I am hoping to receive calls from any of the top IIMs,” he said.
