Cut-offs rise, only 11K seats remaining

PUBLISH DATE 6th August 2018

With 5,801 students confirming their admissions in round three of the centralised admission process to the first year junior college, almost 40,000 students are now vying for only 11,000 seats across the city in the fourth round of the admission process. The third round concluded on August 2.

While many students are hoping to find a better college allocation, the cut-offs in top colleges seem to have either increased or stayed stagnant.

A similar trend was seen in all the other streams available in the college and other top colleges of the city. Fergusson College as well, had an overall increase in the cut-offs instead of a fall with the progressing admission procedure. According to Teresa David, principal of Lakshmanrao Apte Prashala, the rising trend reflects the incidence of more high scoring students delaying admission confirmation to obtain seats in their desired colleges, thus posing a threat to low scoring students. “The idea that cut-offs will fall with the progressing rounds is a bygone concept, especially as more and more high-scoring students are choosing to wait out the process in hopes of getting their desired colleges.

“This is going to make it difficult for low-scorers who had been dodging admission confirmation in hopes to making the cut to top colleges in the later rounds.”
