Marked rise in PhDs produced by IIT-B over years

Presenting the annual report in presence of the graduating students, Devang Khakhar, director of the institute, said, “During the last 10 years, R&D receipts grew over 42% and there is a remarkable increase of 55% over the last year. This includes the grants received in the year for new sanctioned projects as well as the ongoing ones.“ He later added that funds for sponsored as well as consultancy projects have gone up over the years. The institute has even seen a marked increase in the numbers of PhDs they produced over the years.This year, 357 candidates were awarded the PhD degree, up from last year's 327.

Dean (R&D) P V Balaji said that newer schemes introduced by the government are mainly responsible for the increased funding along with more projects and more faculties on the campus.“The ministry of human resource and development has introduced schemes such as Uchhatar Avishkar Yojana and IMpacting Research INnovation and Technology (IMPRINT), which is promoting research,“ he added.
