Management, a craft of getting things done by others is a mainstream professional degree getting popular in the wake of the rapid growth of businesses as the world inches towards capitalisation. The essential elements of it spin around the five focuses - Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing and Controlling. The investigation of the executives is a special and quick advancing one as it is a blend of craftsmanship and science and has seen a flood popular with all the MNCs going into India and the nearby organizations levelling up to meet the outside rivalry.

 

The reason why it is a highly sought after course in India especially due to the lucrative job prospects after an MBA and the all-encompassing nature of the course which can be taken up by anyone regardless of their background. However, management is more than just an MBA with various undergraduate and postgraduate courses coming under its offering.

 

While the courses are diverse in nature, the basic skills one develops during any of those are that of creative thinking, multi-tasking, team motivation and leadership and promotion. Management is often seen as a continuation of Commerce subject and the students with an I.Com degree have an advantage since the groundwork is already laid there.

Entrance exams for these courses -

 

There are few all India level entrance exams for undergraduate courses and most colleges take their own entrance tests for the undergraduate courses. Some popular ones being -

 

DU JAT which is the entrance test of Delhi University for management courses

 

Symbiosis Entrance Test for undergraduate courses in the colleges of Symbiosis University 

 

IPM of IIM Indore for the 5 years BBA+MBA. 

 

 

When it comes to postgraduate courses, there’s an array of exams starting from the most prestigious one, CAT - Common Aptitude Test. This test is held by IIMs, the premier institution for PGDM in India and their test scores are accepted by most colleges across India. It is the toughest one to crack with around 2 lakh students taking the exam every year and the number keeps climbing every year. Following are the major exams and colleges for MBA

 

CAT - Common Aptitude Test - IIMs and most other colleges except those with their own entrance tests

 

XAT - Xavier Aptitude Test - XLRI, XIMB and other colleges of XAVIER’s chain

Job Prospects after obtaining a Management degree -

 

While one can enter the job market right after completing an undergraduate degree, most students tend to go for the postgraduate as it gives them an extra edge and higher package while being beneficial in the long run.

Typical jobs include those in the field of Marketing, Finance, Operations and HR along with some in technical fields according to your specialisation. The average package again varies by the college with top 20 colleges giving average yearly CTC (cost to company) in double digits while the top 50 colleges having average packages above 6 Lakh per annum.
