JoSAA Counselling 2026 Schedule: Key Dates & Rounds

All the information you need for JoSAA Counselling 2026 is here, including an overview of registration dates, deadlines to help you secure your IIT, NIT or IIIT seat.

Get ready for your journey to the IITs and NITs!

If you took the JEE Main or the JEE Advanced exams, your next destination is JoSAA! You can find both the IITs and there are many other types of universities. JoSAA is the Joint Seat Allocation Authority which provides the centralised method of allocating seats for institutes such as IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Therefore if you don't know when to fill in your choices, you won't get placed, no matter how well you performed!

Key Dates for JoSAA 2026 (dates may change!)

The first day of choice filling and registration was 5 PM, June 2, 2026, and the last day to do so will be June 11, 2026. The first two mock allotment results (June 8, 2026 and June 10, 2026) will show where your rank would land should you qualify based on the mocks.

Round 1 allotment date is June 13, 2026.

Round 2 allotment date is June 30, 2026.

Round 3 allotment date is July 6, 2026.

Round 4 allotment date is July 10, 2026.

Round 5 (Final Round for IITs/IISc) allotment date July 16, 2026.

You must decide before the end of each round if you want to keep one of the three available seat types: Freeze, Float or Surrender. The only option available to you once you have moved from Float to Freeze is to continue moving from Freeze to Surrender.

What Happens in Each Round :

Every round follows the same four steps: seat allotment, online seat acceptance, document verification, and payment of the seat acceptance fee (₹35,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS and ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates). The fee is later adjusted against your admission fee.

Miss a seat acceptance deadline and your candidature can be cancelled with no reinstatement, so track every date on josaa.nic.in carefully.
